He knows something BIG

This guy has become Gov-Corp's target #1. The Daily Beast writes that, "Anxious that Wikileaks may be on the verge of publishing a batch of secret State Department cables, investigators are desperately searching for founder Julian Assange. Philip Shenon reports. Plus, Daniel Ellsberg tells The Daily Beast: "Assange is in Some Danger."
Intelligence officials claim that such leaks are a threat to national security. They say these cables could reveal sensitive info about intelligence ops in the middle east.
My opinion is that it goes way beyond that. The way Gov-Corp "operates in the middle east" is not going to be terribly shocking to many attentive, cynical news hounds. Some of us have had a depressingly clear picture of that mess for some some time now. There is no way Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is going to be this hunted "for questioning" unless he's got the dope on something that could ruin a lot of of careers, plans and embarrass a lot of highly-placed folks. Personally, I'm dying to know what that is.

From The Daily Beast:
(This story has been updated to reflect new developments on Assange's whereabouts, including the cancelation of a scheduled appearance in Las Vegas.)
Pentagon investigators are trying to determine the whereabouts of the Australian-born founder of the secretive website Wikileaks for fear that he may be about to publish a huge cache of classified State Department cables that, if made public, could do serious damage to national security, government officials tell The Daily Beast.

The officials acknowledge that even if they found the website founder, Julian Assange, it is not clear what they could do to block publication of the cables on Wikileaks, which is nominally based on a server in Sweden and bills itself as a champion of whistleblowers.

“We’d like to know where he is; we’d like his cooperation in this,” one U.S. official said of Assange.

American officials said Pentagon investigators are convinced that Assange is in possession of at least some classified State Department cables leaked by a 22-year-old Army intelligence specialist, Bradley Manning of Potomac, Maryland, who is now in custody in Kuwait.

And given the contents of the cables, the feds have good reason to be concerned. Read the rest here.

"This is not the liberal democracy that we all have dreamed of. This is encroaching privatized censorship regime." Julian Assange - 12 May 2010

Mr. Assange is a very intuitive and insightful man. He sees and understands. Please take the time, if you haven't already, to view the speech he gave at the Oslo Freedom Forum last month. Each segment is approximately nine minutes long (Part 1 & Part 2).

It seems "...the Obama administration is proving more aggressive than the Bush administration in seeking to punish unauthorized leaks." Read what last Friday's New York Times says about the Obama Administration when it comes to transparency.

I wonder if the latest news about what's in Afghanistan - which of course the gubmint knew all about - has anything to do with what they're so worried will be revealed?
