Happy 4/20!!

From the DPA:
Today is 4/20 -- a symbolic day for the drug policy reform movement. For many, it’s a day for celebration, but it’s also a day to speak out and show legislators your support for marijuana legalization.
4/20 is a reflection of the fact that marijuana is a mainstream cultural and political issue that is gaining ground across the country. Whether you love, hate, or don’t care about marijuana, we all agree that marijuana prohibition does more harm than good -- yet the war on marijuana rages on.
We've been working on a groundbreaking bill that would end federal marijuana prohibition by allowing states to decide their own marijuana laws. Speak out and urge your representatives to cosponsor this bill today!

I signed the petition.

Yesterday morning when I was up at my usual obnoxious hour to get ready for work, I was watching with one eye on the television a Current TV documentary about the marijuana laws in different states related to medical use. It's too bad the legality of this naturally growing plant, with a host of medical and therapeutic uses, has become such a politically-charged issue. It shouldn't be.

I bet if Big Oil, or the banking syndicate, or more realistically, Big Pharm with a helping hand from, say, Monsanto, was able to isolate and tweak the genome of this wondrous plant, and produce and patent the resultant product and seeds, it would become legal in all fifty states practically overnight.

The legality of any issue seemingly depends upon how much power and money one has. This is becoming more evident by the day.

That's what they're trying to do now - and I'd make book that it's why Obama did an about-face on the cannabis issue. He is a tool of industry, after all.

From the police unions to the prison guard unions; from Big Pharm to the alcohol producers -- they're all afraid of a simple little plant that grows naturally and in every temperate climate.

The ultimate sin, greed, reappears and shows its ugly little head in just about every economic and social issue known to our species. It trumps all the others.

Despite the claims of Gordon Gekko, greed is not good. It's destroying us slowly... but surely.

They're a parasite, a cancer, killing the host but too stupid with that greed to realize they're killing themselves.

Eat, Drink and Be Merry, for tomorrow they will surely die.
