This is the Perfect Snapshot

...of how the Justice Department operates, who it operates for, and how utterly ass-backwards federal priorities are. Even though not one banker has gone to jail, the Justice Department has been extremely busy - just not with charging the Wall Street set or the banking cartel for the crimes they've committed. Apparently that's too much work.

No, they've set their sights on easier pickings: Medical marijuana dispensaries and growers. Tax-paying businesses that follow the rules and provide medicinal, pain-relieving marijuana to the chronically ill. A non-lethal plant which has been used by humans for thousands of years is their big priority, the-evil-thing-they-must-persue. And contrary to expert recommendations, the feds still classify it as a schedule 1 drug , right next to heroin. (Wikipedia says that in January 2008, the American College of Physicians called for a review of cannabis's Schedule I classification in its position paper entitled "Supporting Research into the Therapeutic Role of Marijuana"). No one dies from using it, but hey, the DOJ isn't going to let a little reality or common sense affect their agenda!

Alcohol and prescription drugs kill hundreds of thousands of people a year (people can actually kill themselves in one sitting with alcohol - and sometimes do). But instead of government actually overseeing drug companies for real, the FDA has chosen to attack vitamin and herbal supplements, while Obama's DOJ has chosen to harass Big Pharma's medicinal competition out of existence. It's obvious that they aren't acting on behalf of the patients, who are legally prescribed marijuana in their state by licensed Physicians.

Millions of people have lost their life savings and had their retirements ruined, because of the global financial crisis that began in 2008. Most will never recover, and some will have to work until they drop dead. Many have been illegally foreclosed on and had their homes seized by the banks. People were scammed out of untold billions on a global scale - this is major harm, major damage, to people worldwide. (Remember when these hypocrites threw Martha Stewart in jail? What a crock!)

Even in the Reagan years, the S&L perps went to jail. According to the DOJ's own records, between 1990 and 1995 no less than 1,852 S&L officials were prosecuted, and 1,072 placed behind bars. Another 2,558 bankers were also jailed, often for offenses which were S&L-linked too.

Yet the DOJ priority is: Hunting down users and providers of a non-lethal plant-based medicine. Are you kidding me? If patients in California or anywhere else use this plant, you and I are not harmed as a result! The patient isn't harmed by the result. Why is this ANY concern of the DOJ, at all? This is not only not justice, it's so nonsensical it should be subjected to congressional inquiry. These are OUR tax dollars the DOJ is using to coddle criminals and harass the harmless.

As this piece in today's Alternet points out, "The federal war on weed came as a surprise to many distributors and patients who remember Obama's campaign promise not to act on medical marijuana, but leave regulations up to the state. Instead, he has proven himself to be even worse than George Bush." Read more here.

Yep! you Betcha!

Hey Anna,
Let's get JG and write a play about this.

How about:

A guy steals a million dollars from someone's pension...no, make that a loaf of bread.

Next we get someone from the DoJ to track down the guy who stole the million dollars...no, wait. Maybe a run-of-the-mill, doggedly persistent detective who could spend an eternity if necessary trying to track down, arrest and see that the thief is punished for such a heinous crime!

Then the DoJ guy finally realizes that the one who stole the millions really didn't mean it. He just needed the money to keep himself and his family alive living in the Hamptons, playing tennis, and trying to be the best he could be and the DoJ guy absolves him of all wrong doing!

Or the Run-of-the-mill detective catches the bread thief and through careful manipulation of the law, makes sure he and his kind are locked away on a small island off the coast of French Guiana!(I made that part up because it seems that the public will like the severe punishment factor!)

We might even set it all to music!

Nah! No one would ever believe something like that could happen!

I know, right?!

And yet, most of the public appears oblivious to the fact that "our" Gubmint is run by corpo-whores, control freaks, psychopaths, and utter nincompoops.
