First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Attention Mayors, Police Chiefs, Politicians, Wingnuts, and Corporate Grifters:

Notice that there is no "Except" after this concise passage. It doesn't say, "the right of the people to peaceably assemble EXCEPT when it makes rich people uncomfortable, or scares the rightwing and their billionaire puppet-masters, or when it threatens the interests of the military industrial congressional complex."

Most of us have recognized from the start that infiltrators would attempt to disrupt and discredit the Occupy movement from within. Which continues to happen. But now police and politicians have seized on another strategy to shut down lawful public assembly and protest: The pretext of "safety" and "public health" concerns.

During the past several days corporate MSM outlets online have posted pictures and stories of Occupy locations being full of sickly, ill people who are allegedly creating a public health hazard. That's right, now officials have to shut down Occupy protests "for our own good"! You know, like when they bully you into a flu shot, or keep you from buying medical marijuana and medicinal herbs - it's just for your own good. (Because you're too stupid to decide for yourself like a grown person how to best care for your own body.)

Thank gawd for these dedicated corporate enforcers who are bravely protecting us from ourselves and our foolish insistence on some silly old constitutional rights!

So the latest lie is to convince the populace that these predominately unemployed, and underemployed, demonstrators are a health hazard, and that local health ordinances trump Constitutional rights?

They will stoop to ever decreasing lows, won't they? There's never shame when there isn't any conscience.

Silly rabbits!
Everyone knows it's much more dangerous to worry that there might, may, could possibly be a minor health hazard at the Occupy Sites than carrying loaded weapons by fanatic tea party members at Democratic Town Hall Meetings or even a Presidential Appearance. (But the health care people would make lots of money treating, Hmmmm?)

We all know no crazy Reich Winger or Tea Bigot with a loaded gun would ever threaten or cause harm to anyone at a political meeting, especially a Democratic one. Just ask Gabby Giffords!

It was always on the cards. I'm a bit surprised it took them this long. Still, I suspect they've done the movement a favour - put it back in the news & being discussed. Things were beginning to seem stagnant and had begun drifting from public consciousness again.

I hope it'll act as more of a spur than a brake - I think it will!

Bloomberg's bouncers think they have the upper hand, but I believe you're right, Twilight, OWS's eviction today from Liberty Park will only swell the numbers. Count on it.

It's apparent NYC is going to blatantly refuse a court order and not allow occupiers back in with their belongings. Despite this speed-bump, it's my guess Thursday's two-month celebratory event is even more likely!
